The name is a joke with a point behind it. 1920 was the year Prohibition landed in America, and this boutique South Australian family winery makes the wine that would have been legal through all of it. The Pinot Grigio is built as a real wine using traditional techniques, then dealcoholised with a variation of the spinning cone process. That method works at low temperature, so the aromatics and the mouthfeel survive instead of being cooked off. It drinks dry and unusually robust for this category. Nashi pear leads, apple and lemon fill in behind it, and the finish runs long and balanced. Under 0.5% ABV, 18 calories and 2.7g of sugar per 100ml, and the whole range is vegan friendly. Serve it properly cold and treat it like the real thing at the table. Grilled lemon herb chicken, goat cheese stuffed mushrooms, brie with green apple, or zucchini noodles in a lemon garlic dressing.
