Privacy Policy

Your trust matters. Here's exactly how NA Beer Finder handles your data across our website and mobile apps.

Fried Pickles LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the NA Beer Finder mobile application (the "App") and associated services, including the beerfordriving.com website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App or visit this website.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

Personal Information

Your email address when you subscribe to premium features or use the web sign-in feature via the App. We also assign or retrieve a unique user ID associated with your account.

Subscription Information

Details about your subscription status (premium or free), the platform you subscribed through (iOS App Store, Google Play Store, or Web/Stripe), subscription start/expiry dates, cancellation dates, and identifiers provided by payment processors (RevenueCat User ID, Stripe Customer ID).

Location Information (App)

We collect two types of location data:

  • Explicit Location for Venue Search — With your permission, we collect your device's precise location when you use location-dependent features to find nearby venues, sort search results by distance, or center the map. Your precise location is used to fulfill the request and is not retained on our servers in identifiable form. You can disable location permissions at any time through your device settings.
  • Coarse Region for Notifications — To send relevant push notifications (for example, new drinks added in your region), we may store a coarse region tag — typically your country and state or province — derived from your account preferences or recent app usage. We do not store precise coordinates or street-level location for notification targeting.

Push & In-App Notification Data

We use OneSignal to send push notifications about new drinks, venue updates, and price changes, and we store in-app notifications on our servers so they appear in the app's Notifications screen. This includes:

  • Device push tokens and notification identifiers
  • Notification interaction data (opens, dismisses, time viewed)
  • Custom user tags such as your premium status, your preferred drink categories (for example, beer, wine, spirits, mocktails, or THC), and an optional coarse region (country and state or province)
  • Device information (OS version, app version, device model)
  • User identifier (synced with RevenueCat) and email address (when provided)
  • In-app notification records — including the notification type (for example, a new drink at a venue you favorited, a venue update, or a price drop), the related venue or drink, and read/unread state

Sponsored Notifications: We partner with beverage brands to send occasional promotional push notifications. Brands may pay us to deliver notifications about their products, new releases, or promotions to users whose preferences suggest interest. You can disable push notifications entirely or mute individual notification categories through the App's Settings or your device settings at any time.

Brand & Product Preferences (Premium)

When you use the NA Radar feature, we collect and store:

  • Your selected brand subscriptions
  • Product browsing history
  • Search queries within the Directory tab
  • Cached product and brand data stored locally on your device

Onboarding Preferences

During first-time setup, we collect:

  • Location permission preference
  • Push notification permission preference
  • NA Radar feature opt-in preference
  • App launch count (to determine when to prompt for notifications)

App Usage Information

Information about how you interact with the native parts of the App, such as which tabs you use, interactions with settings, and interactions with the paywall or directory menu.

Conversion Tracking & App Events

We use the Meta SDK to measure conversions for advertising campaigns we run on Facebook and Instagram. This may include:

  • App events and conversions we explicitly log (for example, completing a subscription)
  • Device information and anonymous user identifiers
  • Subscription status (premium or free) for conversion attribution

Important: In our current iOS and Android apps, automatic event logging is disabled, and the Meta Advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android) may only be collected if you grant App Tracking Transparency consent — which is not requested by default today. We use the Meta SDK only to measure the effectiveness of our own Facebook and Instagram campaigns. We do not display ads within the app itself.

Crash & Error Data

We use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs to improve app stability. This includes:

  • Stack traces and error messages
  • Device information (OS version, device model, app version)
  • User actions leading to crashes
  • Technical diagnostic information

Website & Analytics Information

When you visit this website — or use the embedded map experience inside the App, which loads beerfordriving.com in a WebView — we use Google Analytics to collect information automatically. This may include your IP address, general geographic location derived from your IP address, browser type, operating system, device information, pages you visit, the time and duration of your visits, and referring websites. When the WebView loads, the App passes your authentication token and current location across the bridge so the map can show your premium status and nearby venues; this data is not exposed to Google Analytics.

Device Information (App)

We may indirectly collect information about your mobile device, such as the operating system (iOS/Android), primarily to determine the subscription platform and manage app functionality.

1.1 Mobile App Permissions

Our mobile app requests the following permissions:

iOS Permissions

  • Location When In Use: To find nearby venues. Manage in iOS Settings > NA Beer Finder > Location.
  • Push Notifications: To receive product updates and deals. Manage in iOS Settings > Notifications.

Android Permissions

  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: Precise venue search.
  • ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Approximate venue search.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION: Location updates while app is in use (not background tracking).
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Push notifications about products and discounts.

All permissions are optional and can be managed through your device settings. Denying permissions will limit certain features but the app will remain functional.

1.2 Account & Sign-In

You can browse most of the App without creating an account. Some features — including saving favorites, posting reviews, and managing a premium subscription — require you to sign in. We support three sign-in methods:

  • Email Magic Code — we send a 6-digit verification code to the email address you provide. We use Postmark to deliver this email and we verify the code on our servers. We do not store your code after it is used or expires.
  • Sign in with Apple — Apple sends us an identity token plus, on first sign-in, your name and email address. You may choose to share Apple's private email relay address instead of your real address; in that case we will only ever see the relay address, and emails we send (including sign-in codes) will be forwarded by Apple. We verify the Apple identity token on our servers before issuing a session.
  • Sign in with Google — Google sends us an ID token containing your email address and basic profile information (name and profile picture URL). We verify the token on our servers before issuing a session.

Anonymous Use

If you have not signed in, the App still creates an anonymous identifier so we can remember your preferences on this device and so RevenueCat can attribute purchases. When you sign in, we link this anonymous identifier to your account so your preferences carry over.

Session Storage

After you sign in, we store a session token on your device. On the web, the token is held in your browser's local storage. On iOS, the token is stored in the iOS Keychain via the system's secure storage. On Android, it is stored using the platform's encrypted storage. The token is sent only to our servers to authenticate your requests.

What we store about your account: the email address associated with your account, an internal user ID, your sign-in method, the date you joined, and the profile fields you choose to set (display name and preferred drink type). Your email address is not editable in the App today; if you need to change it, contact us.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the App, website, and their features.
  • To process and manage your subscription, including granting premium access.
  • To allow web subscribers to access their premium status in the mobile app by signing in with their email address.
  • To provide location-based services requested by you within the App.
  • To send push notifications about new products, discounts, and updates from brands you've subscribed to.
  • To deliver sponsored push notifications from brands that pay us to promote their products to relevant users.
  • To send notifications when new venues offering your favorite brands are added near your tracked location.
  • To provide personalized content in the NA Radar feature based on your brand subscriptions.
  • To show you relevant new releases, discounts, bundles, and seasonal items from brands you follow.
  • To cache product and brand data locally for offline access.
  • To track conversions and app events through the Meta SDK to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram.
  • To facilitate user authentication, including the web sign-in process using email codes.
  • To communicate with you (verification codes, support responses).
  • To analyze website traffic and user behavior using Google Analytics.
  • To monitor app stability and fix crashes using Sentry.
  • To publish reviews, ratings, and comments you submit, alongside your display name, on the venue and drink pages they relate to.
  • To process venue submissions and venue corrections you submit, including those submitted without an account, and to publish approved venue information.
  • To save your favorites (venues, drinks, and brands) and, if enabled, to notify you when something changes at a place you favorited.
  • To deliver in-app notifications surfaced in the App's Notifications screen — for example, when a new drink is added at a venue you follow, when a venue's information is updated, or when a price drops.
  • To send transactional emails through Postmark, including sign-in verification codes and, if you have enabled email notifications in Settings, alerts about new drinks at venues you follow.
  • To fulfill legal obligations.

2.1 Advertising & Monetization

How We Make Money: The App is free to download and use, with optional premium features available via subscription. We generate revenue through:

  • Premium Subscriptions — users pay for enhanced features like NA Radar.
  • Brand Partnerships — non-alcoholic beverage brands pay us to send promotional push notifications to relevant users who have subscribed to those brands or who may be interested based on app usage and preferences.
  • External Advertising — we run campaigns on Facebook and Instagram to promote our app. The Meta SDK tracks conversions to measure effectiveness. We do not display ads within the app itself.

What This Means for You:

  • If you subscribe to a brand in NA Radar, that brand (or we, on their behalf) may send you promotional push notifications.
  • We do not display advertisements within the app itself.
  • Your app usage and conversion data is shared with Meta to measure advertising campaign effectiveness.
  • You can unsubscribe from specific brands, disable push notifications, or limit ad tracking through your device settings at any time.
  • We do not sell your email address or personally identifiable information to third parties.

2.2 User-Generated Content & Public Profile

Some features let you contribute information that other users see. Anything you post in these areas should be assumed to be public.

Reviews, Ratings, & Comments

Signed-in users can leave reviews on venues and drinks. A review may include a 1–5 star rating, free-text comments, or both (a rating-free comment is also allowed). Reviews are displayed publicly on the venue or drink page along with your display name, the initials shown in your avatar, and the date posted. Other users may mark your review as helpful; the helpful count is also public.

Venue Submissions

Anyone — signed in or not — can submit a new venue using the in-app submission form. We collect the venue name, address, location, the categories of drinks served, any drink names or notes you provide, and the IP address you submitted from (for spam prevention). Submissions are reviewed by our team before they appear publicly. Once approved, the venue information becomes a public venue page.

Venue Corrections / Suggest an Edit

You can suggest edits to existing venues — including adding or removing drinks, updating venue details, or reporting a closure. Corrections may be submitted with or without an account. Submitted corrections are reviewed by our team; if accepted, the changes appear on the public venue page.

Favorites

Favorites you save (venues, drinks, and brands) are private to your account. You can optionally enable update notifications on a favorite, in which case we use your favorite list to decide when to notify you about changes.

Profile

You may set a display name and a preferred drink category (none, beer, THC, wine, spirits, or mocktails). Your display name is shown publicly with every review you post. Your email address is not displayed publicly and is not editable in the App today.

Removing your content: You can delete your own reviews from within the App. If you need a venue submission, correction, or any other contribution removed, contact us at tim@chillmaps.com and we will remove it. Note that approved venue information may remain in the public directory even if your individual submission is removed.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense. However, sharing data with advertising platforms like Facebook may be considered a "sale" under certain privacy laws (see Section 10 for California residents). We may share your information in the following circumstances:

With Service Providers

We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf:

RevenueCat

Mobile subscription processing, entitlement management, and subscription status sync.

Stripe

Web subscription payment processing. Handles your payment card information directly.

Cloudflare

Backend hosting, database, and infrastructure for user account and subscription data.

OneSignal

Push notification delivery. Processes device tokens, interaction data, and custom tags.

Sentry

App stability monitoring. Processes error logs, stack traces, and device info.

Facebook (Meta)

App usage analytics and conversion tracking for external advertising campaigns.

Google Analytics

Website usage analytics and traffic reporting.

Postmark

Transactional email delivery — sign-in verification codes and opt-in alerts about drinks at venues you follow.

Apple

Sign in with Apple identity verification. Apple sends us an identity token and, optionally, your name and email (which may be a private relay address).

Google Identity

Sign in with Google identity verification. Google sends us an ID token containing your email and basic profile information.

With the Embedded Map (within the App): Parts of the App's map experience are powered by an embedded WebView that loads beerfordriving.com. When that WebView opens, the App passes your current session token, user ID, premium status, and (with your permission) your current location across the JavaScript bridge so the map can render correctly. This data is not shared with any third party as part of this hand-off.

For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

4. Data Storage & Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information.

Your user ID, email (if provided), preferences, and cached app data may be stored locally on your device. Cached drink and venue data expires after a short period and is automatically refreshed.

Your authentication session token is stored using your device's secure storage — the iOS Keychain on iPhone and iPad, the encrypted SharedPreferences keystore on Android, and your browser's local storage on the web.

User account details, reviews, favorites, submissions, and subscription information are stored on backend infrastructure provided by Cloudflare. Analytics data is processed and stored by Google. Crash reports are stored by Sentry.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

5. Your Choices & Rights

  • Location Services (App) — enable or disable location permissions at any time through your device settings.
  • Push Notifications — enable or disable through your device settings or within the App's Settings screen. You can also turn off email notifications about new drinks at venues you follow from the App's Settings screen.
  • Profile & Reviews — edit your display name and preferred drink category from your profile. You can delete any review you've posted at any time from within the App. To remove a venue submission or correction you've made, contact us.
  • Favorites — add or remove favorites at any time from within the App. Favorites are private to your account.
  • Subscription Management — manage mobile subscriptions through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Web subscriptions can be cancelled within the mobile app's Settings or directly at the website. Web subscription management is processed through Stripe's portal.
  • Google Analytics Opt-Out — install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Advertising Identifier (App Tracking Transparency) — our current iOS and Android apps do not request the device advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID), and automatic event logging in the Meta SDK is disabled. You can additionally limit ad tracking system-wide through your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking; Android: Settings > Google > Ads).
  • Crash Reporting — crash reports are automatically sent and do not contain personally identifiable information beyond technical device details.
  • Account Deletion — the App does not currently offer in-app account deletion. To delete your account and associated personal data, email tim@chillmaps.com from the address on your account with the subject line "Delete my account." We will verify your identity, remove your account, and confirm completion within 30 days. Reviews you have posted will be removed or anonymized. Note that deleting your account ends your access to premium features.
  • Access & Correction — you may request access to or correction of your personal information held by us. Contact us at tim@chillmaps.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
  • Email Communications — opt out of non-essential emails by following the unsubscribe instructions in the email. Transactional emails (such as sign-in verification codes) are necessary to use the App.

6. Third-Party Services & Analytics

The App and website use third-party services for payments, backend infrastructure, analytics, and notifications. We encourage you to review their privacy policies:

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics uses cookies to help analyze how users use the site. The information generated (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The subject matter of the App (non-alcoholic beverages) may be of interest to minors, but we do not specifically target children. Parents and guardians should monitor their children's use of the App.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, please contact us immediately at tim@chillmaps.com so we can delete the information.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

  • User Account Data — retained while your account is active and for up to 1 year after account deletion or subscription cancellation.
  • Subscription History — retained for legal and accounting purposes for up to 7 years after subscription ends.
  • Location Data — your precise location is used to fulfill in-app requests and is not retained on our servers in identifiable form. Coarse region tags (country/state) used for notification targeting are retained while your account is active.
  • Reviews, Comments, & Helpful Votes — retained while published. If you delete a review, it is removed from public view. If you delete your account, your reviews are removed or anonymized.
  • Venue Submissions & Corrections — submission records (including the submitter's IP address for spam prevention) are retained for our records. Approved venue and drink information becomes part of the public directory and is retained indefinitely, even if your account is later deleted.
  • Favorites & Preferences — stored while your account is active. Cleared when you delete the favorite or delete your account.
  • In-App Notifications — notification records (new drink, venue update, favorite, price drop) are retained while your account is active so they can appear in the app's Notifications screen.
  • Cached Data (Local) — drink and venue data cached on your device expires after a short period and is automatically refreshed.
  • Analytics Data — processed by third parties (Google Analytics, Meta) according to their retention policies.
  • Crash Reports — retained by Sentry for up to 90 days.
  • Push Notification Data — managed by OneSignal according to their retention policy.

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at tim@chillmaps.com.
