Siegfried claims two firsts here. This was Germany's first non-alcoholic spirit alternative, and by the distillery's account the first anywhere to launch under the same brand name as its alcoholic counterpart, Siegfried Rheinland Dry Gin. How the aromas get pulled off the botanicals without alcohol is something the company declines to explain, saying only that the process is complicated. What reaches the glass is led by juniper, linden blossom and allspice, herbal up front with a fruity, spicy finish. No sugar and no sweeteners at all, vegan and gluten-free. It is not built for sipping neat and Siegfried says so plainly. Put it into a proper long drink instead, tonic being the intended partner. An opened bottle holds for at least eight weeks unrefrigerated, though keep it out of direct sunlight.
