Dark chocolate and roasted coffee with a hint of fruit behind them, which is what you want from a stout and what most alcohol-free versions never manage. This one gets there at 0.5% ABV on barley malt, hops and yeast, and then adds the part that makes Sentia unusual. The same functional blend runs through it: magnolia bark, ashwagandha root, passion flower, damiana leaf and liquorice root, selected by Professor David Nutt's team to work with the brain's natural GABA pathways. Treat it as a functional drink rather than an unlimited one. Sentia caps intake at two 440ml cans a day, warns that the liquorice matters for anyone with hypertension, and rules it out during pregnancy, breastfeeding or a course of medication. Drowsiness is a listed effect, so this is not a driving beer. Eighteen calories per 100ml, and it does contain gluten.
