Coastal Pinot Noir is a specific thing, and this is a fair example of it. Oceano farms Spanish Springs Vineyard on the San Luis Obispo coast, where evening fog and cool ocean air stretch out the growing season and keep the fruit from turning heavy or jammy. The 2024 is alcohol removed and made in a lighter register on purpose. Wild strawberry, cranberry and plum lead, with coastal sage and a hint of nutmeg giving it something savoury to stand on. Vibrant acidity and fine grained tannins keep the texture polished rather than thin, and the red fruit lingers on the finish. It carries under 0.5 percent alcohol, 5 calories per 5 ounce serving and just 1 gram per litre of sugar, unusually dry for a dealcoholized red. Serve it slightly chilled with salmon, mushrooms or grilled vegetables.
