Real quinine, which is rarer than you would expect in a can with tonic on the label. Mockly lists quinine hydrochloride in the ingredients alongside ginger juice, pomegranate and lemon juice concentrates, apple juice and cane sugar, so the bitter spine under the fruit is the actual thing rather than a flavouring imitating it. Ginger supplies the heat, pomegranate the tartness, and the carbonation keeps both of them moving instead of settling into syrup. It drinks fine straight from the can, though the brand suggests pouring it over ice in a chilled Collins glass with fresh rosemary and a lemon wedge, which is worth the extra thirty seconds. It also takes an ounce and a half of gin cleanly if half your table is drinking. The rest of the Mockly lineup runs to Salted Watermelon Punch, Blueberry Floral Spritz, Herbal Tangerine Elixir and Citron Café Noir.
